Chris Cornell to be honored with inaugural Promise Award from LA Committee of Human Rights Watch

ABC/Randy HolmesChris Cornell will posthumously receive the inaugural Promise Award, presented by the Los Angeles Committee of Human Rights Watch. The Soundgarden frontman will be honored for his song "The Promise," the last song he released before his death this past May

The newly created Promise Award "recognizes an outstanding song, television show, or film that advances the values of equity and justice in an original and powerful way." Cornell's "The Promise" was written for the film of the same name, which takes place during the Armenian genocide.

System of a Down's Serj Tankian will present the Promise Award at a ceremony held Tuesday, November 14 in Los Angeles.

In September, Cornell was also posthumously honored by the LA Chefs for Human Rights for his philanthropic and humanitarian efforts during his life.
