Taylor Swift delivers surprise performance of "New Year's Day" on "The Tonight Show"

Andrew Lipovsky/NBCTaylor Swift made an unannounced appearance on Monday's Tonight Show, performing "New Years Day," from her new album Reputation.

The intimate performance, which followed host Jimmy Fallon's monologue, featured Swift sitting at a black piano and singing into a black microphone with the album's title emblazoned on it.

Taylor premiered the song during last Thursday night's episode of ABC's Scandal.

Earlier in the day, Fallon teased the performance with an Instagram video, saying, "I wanted to make sure we have a very, very special, big musical performance and we got one," adding "Look what you made me do."

Prior to the performance, Fallon announced that Reputation, released on Friday, has already sold more than a million copies.
