Watch Peter Frampton discuss his friendship with David Bowie in clip from new episode of "The Big Interview"

Courtesy of AXS TVPeter Frampton will be featured on the next episode of the AXS TV series The Big Interview with Dan Rather, which premieres tonight at 9 p.m. ET/8 p.m. CT. Among the many topics the veteran British guitar whiz discusses on the program is his long friendship with David Bowie, whom he met and first played music with when they were both students.

In a preview clip from the episode that's been posted on the AXS TV YouTube channel, Frampton talks about how Bowie helped him start a new chapter of his career in the 1980s after the pop superstardom Peter enjoyed during the previous decade had waned.

Frampton recalls that after Bowie had recruited him to contribute to his 1987 album Never Let Me Down, he was thrilled when David asked him to play guitar on his tour in support of the record.

"He said to me, 'What would you think about coming on the road? I'm gonna do a big tour, [the] Glass Spider Tour," Peter tells Dan Rather, adding with a laugh, "And I said, 'Let me think about -- yes! I'll be right there!' So, he could have anybody, but he chose me."

Peter says that by inviting him on that tour at that point in his career, Bowie "gave me the biggest gift, of taking me around the world in stadiums…and reintroducing me as the musician, the guitar player. And for that, I will never stop thanking him."
