Beck sets a record as "Up All Night" tops "Billboard" Alternative Songs chart

Capitol RecordsBeck's single "Up All Night" has ascended to the top spot on Billboard's Alternative Songs chart, making him the artist with the longest wait between number ones in the tally's history.

"Up All Night" tops the chart 12 years, eight months and two weeks since "E-Pro" reached number one in 2005. That narrowly breaks the record set by Jane's Addiction, who topped the chart in 1990 with "Been Caught Stealing," and then again 12 years and eight months later with "Just Because" in 2003.

Ironically, Beck almost set the record with "E-Pro," which reached number one 11 years and two months after "Loser" did in 1994.

Thanks to "Up All Night," Beck is now just the sixth artist to top Alternative Songs in three separate decades, and the first solo act to achieve the feat. Foo Fighters, Green Day, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Blink-182 have also had number-ones in the '90s, 2000s and '10s. U2 did it in the '80s, '90s and '00s.

"Up All Night" is a track from Beck's new album, Colors.
