Moody Blues to celebrate 50th anniversary of "Days of Future Passed" on new North American tour

Courtesy of UMeThis November will mark the 50th anniversary of the release of The Moody Blues' symphonic-rock masterpiece Days of Future Passed, and to celebrate the milestone the veteran British band will mount a North American tour during which they will perform the classic album in its entirety. The "Days of Future Passed -- 50th Anniversary" trek will kick off June 3 in Rancho Mirage, California, and is plotted out through a July 23 concert in Atlanta.

Each show on the tour will begin with The Moody Blues playing a set of their greatest hits, followed by a full performance of Days of Future Passed.

Days of Future Passed was The Moody Blues' second album, and the first to feature longtime band leaders Justin Hayward and John Lodge. The group came up with the concept of the album after their label requested that they record a rock version of Dvorak's 9th Symphony to test "stereo recording," which was in its early days at that time. Instead, the band devised an original song cycle about "a day in the life" of a person. Days of Future Passed featured The Moodies with accompaniment from the London Festival Orchestra.

The album peaked at #2 on the Billboard 200 chart in 1972, and features two of The Moody Blues' most memorable hits, "Nights in White Satin" and "Tuesday Afternoon." The album has been certified platinum for sales of more than 1 million copies in the U.S.

Hayward says of Days of Future Passed, "My dearest wish is that maybe the album has made the world a better place. It will be a joy to return to it, live."
