New Song from Dave Davies' Upcoming Album with His Son Russ Debuts Online

Red River Entertainment

Founding Kinks guitarist Dave Davies will release a new collaborative album with his son Russ called Open Road on March 31. Now, Consequence of Sound is giving fans their first taste of the record by hosting an exclusive stream of a song titled "Path Is Long."

The melancholy, introspective tune features Dave's gently crooned vocals accompanied by melodic guitar and electronic drum beats and keyboards.

"It's reflective, honest. Real, I think," the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, who turned 70 this past Friday, tells the website of "Path Is Long." "Trying to come to terms with the past yet willing to embrace the future. It has a hopeful expectation about it. The realization of how each event or experience with people we love and interact with are the most precious and valuable times of all."

Meanwhile, Russ Davies, who previously worked with his dad on the 2010 album The Aschere Project, tells Consequence of Sound that although he and Dave butted heads while making Open Road, they inevitably were able to resolve any artistic differences they may have had.

"It was tough at times as I can be a bit of a perfectionist and Dave more a wild spirit," he explains, "so in the end we both pulled the songs in different directions and met somewhere in the middle."

As previously reported, Dave will launch a spring U.S. tour in support Open Road with an April 6 concert in Milwaukee. Davies recently added a number of dates to the trek, which now is mapped out through an April 30-May 1 stand at City Winery in Nashville.
