Jay Z friend and recording CEO Jon Platt gives Songwriter's Hall of Fame speech on rapper's behalf

Warner/Chappell Music CEO Jon Platt accepts induction for Jay Z at the Songwriters Hall of Fame; Theo Wargo/Getty Images for Songwriters Hall of FameJay Z was wasn't present during Thursday night's Songwriters Hall of Fame gala -- you can't blame him, since wife Beyoncé's ready to give birth any moment.  

But friend and Warner/Chappell CEO Jon Platt accepted the iconic artist's honor of being the first rapper inducted into the Hall of Fame, on Jay's behalf . 

"I've been in this business for a long time. And I've seen a lot of things come and go in this business," Platt began.

"But legends?" he continued.  

"Legends are forever. And tonight, Shawn Carter, takes his rightful place among the legends in the Songwriter's Hall of Fame. And this moment will live on forever. On behalf of Jay, I thank you for this honor of a lifetime.  

Even though he wasn't there Thursday night, Jay Z tweeted a slew of thank-yous to "all the people that have inspired me" that same evening. 

"Rakim KANE KRS chuck cube Jaz Em Andre Nas big PAC cole kendrick chance jayE..wait," Jay began, adding many more names of fellow artists, including "Lauryn Nicki lite latifah common ye drake and meek."
