How time flies by: Missy Elliott's "Supa Dupa Fly" celebrates 20th anniversary

Derek BlanksBelieve it or not, Missy Elliott's debut album, Supa Dupa Fly, came out 20 years ago this Saturday.

And to celebrate its anniversary, Missy has announced via Twitter that fans can buy a vinyl version of the album now via several digital outlets and stores.

Supa Dupa Fly, produced by Boy Band "architect" and super-producer Timbaland, was released in 1997.

The album catapulted Missy to superstardom, thanks to a number of hit singles, including "The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly), "Hit Em wit da Hee" and "Sock It 2 Me."

The video for "The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly)" was groundbreaking.  The first of Missy's videos to be directed by Hype Williams, it featured the rapper wearing an inflated trash bag, shot through Williams' soon-to-be signature fish-eye lens.

Timbaland, Lil' Kim, Total, 702, Da Brat, Lil' Cease, Puff Daddy, Taj Johnson-George of SWV and Yo Yo all make cameos in the clip, which was nominated for Best Rap Video at the 1997 VMAs.

Supa Dupa Fly debuted at #3 on the Billboard 200, which at the time of its release, was the highest-charting debut for a female rapper.

The album also earned Missy two Grammy nominations for Best Rap Solo Performance and Best Rap Album.

Many R&B and hip-hop stars guest appear on the album, including the late AaliyahBusta RhymesQueen Latifah, Da Brat, Lil' Kim and Ginuwine
