Introducing Armstrongs: Billie Joe and Tim form new band

ABC/Heidi GutmanGreen Day's Billie Joe Armstrong has formed a new band with Rancid's Tim Armstrong. The band's name? Armstrongs, of course.

Joining Billie Joe and Tim in Armstrongs are the former's son Joey, who plays in the band SWMRS, and Rey Armstrong, Tim's nephew.

The first song from Armstrongs is called "If There Was Ever a Time," and you can listen to it now on YouTube. Proceeds from sales of the single will be donated to the Berkeley, California venue 924 Gilman, where Green Day played in their early days.

"Anything that has to do with working with Gilman and Tim and Joey Armstrong, consider me in," says Billie Joe in a statement. "This is about our home and family. Viva Armstrong!"

Just to be clear, Billie Joe and Tim are not actually related, despite having the same surname.

"If There Was Ever a Time" will be officially released on July 28. It can also be heard in the documentary Turn It Around: The Story of East Bay Punk, which Green Day produced.
