Get More Ringo: Ex-Beatles drummer releases new solo album, "Give More Love"

UMeRingo Starr's 19th solo album, Give More Love, arrives today on CD and as a digital download. As previously reported, the ex-Beatles drummer made the record with more than a little help of some of his musical friends, the most notable of which being his old band mate Paul McCartney, who lent his talents to the songs "We're on the Road Again" and "Show Me the Way."

Among the many other guests on the album are Ringo's brother-in-law Joe Walsh, Toto's Steve Lukather, Peter Frampton, Edgar Winter, Eagles bassist Timothy B. Schmit, Mr. Mister's Richard Page, Eurythmics' Dave Stewart and Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers keyboardist Benmont Tench.

Give More Love features 10 brand-new songs, as well as four bonus tracks that are updated versions of older tunes by Starr.  Among the extra tracks is a new rendition of his 1972 hit "Back Off Boogaloo" that's based on the original demo recording Ringo made when he first wrote the song.

In a recent interview with the Los Angeles Times, Starr says he decided to do the new version after he discovered a reel-to-reel tape with the demo of the tune, which had some interesting elements that differed from the originally released track.

"[I]t had a great echo on the [rhythm] guitar," he told the newspaper. "I knew it's me singing, but I couldn't figure out who the hell is playing guitar? And it was me! So that's on this record."

He adds, "We lifted the voice from the track that George [Harrison] produced, so it combines me then, and me now."

A vinyl version of Give More Love will be released on September 22.
