Chloe x Halle's personal connection with Yara Shahidi helped them get cast on "grown-ish"

L-R: Chloe Bailey, Halle Bailey of Chloe x Halle; Freeform/Aaron Pooleblack-ish spinoff grown-ish premieres Wednesday night on Freeform, and two of the show's guest stars -- sister duo Chloe x Halle -- tell ABC Radio that their friendship, and their chemistry, with the show's lead actress enabled them to secure the gig.

Halle says, "We love Yara [Shahidi, star of grown-ish and black-ish] so much, and just being around her all the time...people saw our connection."

"So, being able to get that formed naturally, and so, we're so grateful for that."

Chloe adds, "We love [grown-ish executive producer] Kenya Barris and [co-star] Chris [Parnell] and the whole team. We're so happy that they believe in us and believe in everyone else who's casted [sic] to make this come alive."

She continues, "This will be the voice of young people. So, I'm so excited for it."

grown-ish follows Yara's black-ish character Zoey Johnson as she heads to college and experiences the challenges of adulthood.

Chloe and Halle will appear on the comedy as twin sisters Jazz and Sky, respectively, who are Zoey's classmates.

grown-ish airs as a one-hour event on Wednesday, January 3 at 8 p.m. ET on Freeform.
