"It's a sad song, but it still feels poppy and Christmasy," McCaughey tells Billboard of "Christmas in Antarctica," which also feature's R.E.M.'s Peter Buck.

"It's tricky coming up with Christmas songs that aren't just the same old thing over and over again," McCaughey continues. Gibbard and Death Cab, meanwhile, recently wrapped a U.S. tour behind their new album, Thank You for Today. They'll launch a South American run this Saturday in Chile.
