Smashing Pumpkins planning another new album for 2019

Credit: Olivia BeeOn November 16, the semi-reunited Smashing Pumpkins will release their new album, Shiny and Oh So Bright, Vol. 1/LP: No Past. No Future. No Sun., their first to feature original members Billy Corgan, James Iha and Jimmy Chamberlin in nearly two decades. As Corgan tells Kerrang!, the trio has even more material in the pipeline.

"We're definitely making plans to record another LP, with the idea it will come out at the end of next year," Corgan reveals.

Corgan, Iha and Chamberlin announced that they were reuniting earlier this year, and spent the summer on their first tour together in 18 years. The Pumpkins plan to keep hitting the road in the future, but before the first tour began, Corgan wasn't sure that more shows would be an option.

"There are obviously more shows being talked about [but] I wasn't sure, going in, that there would be more tours," he says. "I thought, 'If this is going to be it, we're going to go out swinging. If this is the last show, let's give it our best go. Let's play this set we never played, let's be the band we never were, one time.'"

The Pumpkins will close out 2018 with a series of special 30th anniversary shows, beginning November 28 in Madison, Wisconsin.
