Nickelback's Chad Kroeger to guest on upcoming Devin Townsend album

ABC/Tim OgierNickelback frontman Chad Kroeger is teaming up with fellow Canadian musician and prolific metal musician Devin Townsend on the latter's upcoming new album, Empath.

"He represents something," Townsend says of Kroeger's involvement in the album. "Aside from the fact we get along, he represents something that I didn't understand, and the ramifications of those decisions. What it takes to be him is unrelentingly intense in ways I never would have anticipated."

After being critical of Nickelback in the past, Townsend said earlier this year that his opinion of the much-maligned band has changed, and he now considers Kroeger to be one of the "few brilliant people in this industry."

Empath is due out next year.

Nickelback's most recent album is 2017's Feed the Machine.
