Motley Crue biopic to premiere in March; Nikki Sixx planning "trilogy" of releases for 2019

Credit: Paul BrownThe Motley Crue biopic The Dirt officially has a release date. The film is set to premiere on Netflix March 22.

Vocalist Vince Neil announced the news on his Twitter, declaring that the movie is "f***in awesome."

"Can't wait for everyone to see it!" Neil added. "Released March 22!! Yea!!!"

The Dirt is based on the 2001 Crue autobiography of the same name, which told the story of the band's debauchery-filled rise during the '80s rock scene on the Sunset Strip. The cast includes The Punisher's Daniel Webber as Neil, Game of Thrones' Iwan Rheon as guitarist Mick Mars, Douglas Booth as bassist Nikki Sixx, and rapper Machine Gun Kelly as drummer Tommy Lee.

To accompany the film, the real-life Motley Crue members have reunited to record four new songs. The band was thought to have broken up after playing what was billed as their final show on New Year's Eve 2015, and they even signed a contract promising to never tour again.

Neil later clarified that while the contract forbade further touring, the Crue "never broke up or said we would never make music again."

In related news, Sixx is gearing up to start a new solo project, which will apparently include a trilogy of releases.

"Officially start working on a new album tomorrow as part of my trilogy project for 2019," Sixx wrote in an Instagram post Tuesday. "Very excited to be working with a handful of different producers and artists to pull the vision that's been haunting me together."
