"Eric Clapton: Life in 12 Bars" doc being released on DVD, Blu-ray in June; companion soundtrack due the same day

UMeThe recent rock doc Eric Clapton: Life in 12 Bars will be released on DVD and Blu-ray on June 8, and a companion soundtrack album will be available as a two-CD set and digital download on the same day. A four-LP vinyl version of the record will follow on July 20.

Life in 12 Bars, which got its U.S. television premiere in February on Showtime, offers an intimate profile of the British guitar legend's life, including his traumatic childhood, his rise to rock stardom and his struggles with drug and alcohol abuse. The movie features extensive interviews with Clapton, some of his family members, friends, musical heroes, collaborators and admirers.

Among the many well-known musicians appearing in new or archival footage are B.B. King, Jimi Hendrix, George Harrison, Duane Allman, The Yardbirds' Chris Dreja and Jim McCarty, John Mayall, one-time Derek and the Dominos keyboardist Bobby Whitlock, Roger Waters and Steve Winwood. The doc also features rare home movies and clips of vintage live and TV performances.

The Life in 12 Bars soundtrack is a 32-track collection spanning most of Clapton's career and featuring studio and live recordings of Eric with The Yardbirds, John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers, Cream, Blind Faith, Delaney & Bonnie & Friends, Derek and the Dominos, and solo.

The album also includes songs by a couple of Clapton's blues influences -- Muddy Waters and Big Bill Broonzy -- as well as The Beatles' "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" and Aretha Franklin's "Good to Me as I Am to You," which both feature Eric on guitar.

The album features five previously unreleased recordings, including a full-length studio version of Clapton's cover of Bob Marley's "I Shot the Sheriff."
