Musical featuring tracks written by Aerosmith members, Panic! at the Disco & Flaming Lips nominated for Tony

Masterworks BroadwayAerosmith's Steven Tyler and Joe Perry, Panic! at the Disco and the Flaming Lips are all nominated for the 2018 Tony Awards, thanks to their work on the soundtrack for SpongeBob SquarePants: The Musical.

Each of those artists wrote an original song for the soundtrack, which is up for the Best Original Score (Music and/or Lyrics) Written for the Theatre award. Tyler and Perry composed a track titled "Bikini Bottom Boogie," while Panic! and the Lips contributed the songs "(Just a) Simple Sponge" and "Tomorrow Is," respectively.

David Bowie's song "No Control" is also on the soundtrack, but since it wasn't originally written for the musical it is not eligible for nomination.

SpongeBob SquarePants: The Musical received a total of 12 Tony nominations, including Best Musical, tying the musical Mean Girls for the most nominations this year.

The 2018 Tony Awards air live Sunday, June 10 on CBS. For the full list of nominations, visit
