Hear Me Now: Thompson Twins singer Tom Bailey's debut solo album, "Science Fiction," due in July

Mikrokosmos/BFDHere's some news that should warm the hearts of Thompson Twins fans: The popular '80s U.K. band's frontman, Tom Bailey, will release his debut solo album, Science Fiction, on July 13.

The 10-track collection marks the singer's first full collection of new music since the 1990s. Bailey produced the album with assistance from Hal Ritson, who previously has collaborated with The Chemical Brothers, David Guetta and many others. Tom recorded Science Fiction at various locations around the world, using his laptop and a set of headphones.

The album's first single is "What Kind of World," which was inspired by both the passing of David Bowie and South African business mogul and engineer Elon Musk's concept of future commercial space travel.

Bailey recorded the album after his returning to performing in 2014 following a long hiatus.

"I so much enjoyed playing concerts around the world over the last couple of years, that I began working behind the scenes on writing, recording and mixing the songs in this collection," Tom explains. "I have concentrated on other areas of music for the past couple of decades -- but I find it incredibly rewarding to be making pop music again. There's something so special about the way this kind of music works and, for me, it's like finding a long-lost friend."

Bailey has launched a PledgeMusic page offering fans the chance to purchase signed CD and vinyl copies of Science Fiction, special bundles, themed merchandise and more.

Tom will be hitting the road with Culture Club and The B-52s in the U.S. this summer and fall, and he'll also be playing select headlining shows.
