Say You Won't Let (Them Sue Me): James Arthur hit with lawsuit over similarities to song by The Script

Olaf HeineJames Arthur's breakthrough U.S. single "Say You Won't Let Go" sounds very much like The Script's early hit, "The Man Who Can't Be Moved."  At least, that's according to the attorney who won the "Blurred Lines"/Marvin Gaye copyright case. He's now suing James for copyright infringement.

According to Billboard, attorney Richard Busch filed a suit alleging that James' song, which according to the suit has earned him $20 million, is a rip-off of the 2008 hit by The Script.  James' two co-writers are also named in the lawsuit, as are his record and publishing companies.

In the complaint, Busch says that James allegedly approached by members of The Script in 2014 about doing a collaboration but they turned him down.  Busch then claims James stole the "essence" of "The Man Who Can't Be Moved" for "Say You Won't Let Go."

Busch wants a jury trial and an accounting of all the revenue connected to the song, according to Billboard.
