Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason releasing box set featuring three 1980s solo projects

Rhino/ParlophoneBesides his work with Pink Floyd, drummer Nick Mason also has put out a number of solo projects over the years, and now three of those recordings will be reissued as part of a new box set called Unattended Luggage.

The limited-edition collection, which will be available as a three-CD or three-LP vinyl set, features Mason's 1981 solo debut, Fictitious Sports, as well as two collaborative albums he made with 10cc guitarist Rick Fenn -- 1985's Profiles and the soundtrack to the 1987 film White of the Eye.

The three albums, which have been out of print for more than 20 years, also will be released separately as digital downloads and via streaming platforms.

Fictitious Sports features 10 tunes written by songwriter Carla Bley, who co-produced the album with Mason and also played keyboards on the record. Ex-Soft Machine singer/drummer Robert Wyatt contributed lead vocals.

Profiles is a mostly instrumental collection that includes a song called "Lie for a Lie" featuring vocals by Pink Floyd guitarist David Gilmour and veteran Scottish singer Maggie Reilly.

White of the Eye features 14 instrumental tracks on which Mason and Fenn collaborated for the 1987 British thriller of the same name, directed by maverick filmmaker Donald Cammell.

"These recordings hold a very special place for me in my musical life," says Mason. "Listening back after 30 odd years, I'm delighted they are getting the reissue treatment. I'm rather hoping that sales will be sufficient to damage the market in the original rare vinyl versions!"

As previously reported, Mason will launch a European tour in September with his new band Saucerful of Secrets, which plays a variety of early Pink Floyd tunes.
