Which song is Marilyn Manson most proud of writing?

Jo Hale/RedfernsMarilyn Manson has shocked many a listener with singles like "The Beautiful People" and "The Dope Show," but as for the song he's most proud to have written, the musician would pick a much more subdued track: "The Speed of Pain," a deep cut from the 1998 album Mechanical Animals.

"It was a poem that I wrote," Manson tells BBC Radio 1. "I was on an airplane, I was reading in Time magazine about the amount of time it takes for your brain to acknowledge pain from your body. And it inspired me to write about something else."

Manson says "The Speed of Pain" also reflects his mysterious obsession with flowers, which even he can't explain.

"Maybe I didn't get enough valentines when I was a kid," Manson explains. "I'm not really sure what the obsession is, but it comes up a lot."

Presumably Manson is pretty proud of his latest album, Heaven Upside Down, as well. He'll hit the road behind the album on a co-headlining tour with Rob Zombie starting July 11 in Detroit.
