Sara Bareilles returns to Broadway tonight, says her new album's done: "I'm really proud"

ABC RadioTonight, Sara Bareilles ties on the apron again as she returns for a third time to the lead role in the Broadway show for which she wrote the music: Waitress.  But the Emmy-nominated star is also prepping her first new album of pop songs since 2013...and she says she's "really proud" of it.

"Yeah, the record is done, it was recorded and produced with T-Bone Burnett in Los Angeles," Sara told ABC Radio at an event celebrating Waitress' third year on Broadway.  "I'm really proud. I was just...sending off the album liner notes and all the photographs and everything."

Our first taste of the album was the 2018 single "Armor."  Sara's now working on a video for that track, and the album itself will arrive in the early part of this year.

First, though, Sara will finish her run in Waitress as Jenna, a pie-baking, pregnant diner waitress stuck in an unhappy marriage.  Jenna ends up having an affair with her OB-GYN, played by Broadway star Gavin Creel, a good friend of Sara's.  Her limited engagement ends February 3.

"I love that, coming back for the third time to celebrate our third year, it feels new, actually," Sara says of playing Jenna yet again.

Waitress has been a huge success on Broadway, with fans who come back to see it again and again.

"We call them 'frequent pie-ers!,'" Sara says. "I think the thing that they tap into is the same thing that I feel like I tap into: it's this sense of community."

"The diner starts to become a very real place for people, and...they really fall in love with the arc of these characters and the journey that occurs eight times a week on that stage."
