Rare 1998 track featuring vocals by Corey Taylor surfaces

Scott Dudelson/Getty ImagesIn 1998, Slipknot's Corey Taylor recorded vocals for a song called "Shadowed" by fellow Iowa band Smakdab. He wasn't credited at the time, but now, over 20 years later, Smakdab is releasing the song with attribution to Taylor via

While Taylor isn't prominently featured on the song, you can hear his instantly recognizable scream in the background during the chorus.

Taylor wasn't the only Slipknot member involved in "Shadowed" -- drummer Joey Jordison co-produced and co-mixed the song.

As for why Smakdab didn't initially promote the song as featuring Taylor and recorded with Jordison, keyboardist Gabe Wilkinson tells Metal Sucks, "We got a nice letter from Roadrunner Records at the time making it very clear to not put Corey or Joey's name anywhere on our release," as Slipknot was about to reach Next Big Thing status.

In addition to looking back in Taylor's career, you can also look forward to Slipknot's much-anticipated new album, due out August 9.
