R. Kelly is now requesting that a judge allow him to travel to Dubai

E. Jason Wambsgans-Pool/Getty ImagesR. Kelly's plans to embark on an overseas trip to Dubai are now in limbo.

Friday, the embattled singer stood before Judge Lawrence Flood to request that he travel to the Persian Gulf country next month for a slew of performances. Kelly claims he is desperate for concert income to pay bills amid his legal troubles.

Per Time, Kelly's attorney Steve Greenberg told reporters outside of the courthouse that he wanted to gather more information on the concerts to give Judge Flood “a certain comfort level” about what the travel  would entail.

“If he goes to Dubai, he is going to come back from Dubai,” Greenberg told reporters.

Greenberg has even offered to "chaperone" the 12 Play artist during his trip.

Judge Flood has set the next court date for May 7, though the defense can request a hearing sooner to ask for a ruling on the motion to approve Kelly’s requested travel plans.

Elsewhere, the co-founder of the #MuteRKelly movement, Kenyette Barnes, has sent a letter to the Chief Judge of the Cook County Circuit Court- Criminal Division, requesting they uphold the order of the Cook County Bond Judge, and deny restoration of international travel privileges from Kelly.
