Nipsey Blue: Fans of late rapper are advocating for Crayola to rename a crayon in his honor

Jimmy FontaineNipsey Hussle has already had an intersection in L.A. named after him -- but if fans have their way, a Crayola crayon could be the next item to sport the late rapper's name.

Thursday, Hussle's legion of supporters rallied on social media to request that Crayola rename its new cobalt blue crayon in his honor. While Crayola initially asked for suggestions for the bold hue back in 2017, fans, including NBA star Lebron James, are now advocating for the name "Nipsey Blue."

"Nipsey Blue...with portions of the proceeds going to inner city STEM programs for kids," one fan wrote in response to Crayola's original tweet.

A few other suggestions included "Crenshaw Blue," "Marathon Blue," "TMC Blue" and "Blue Laces." That last one is a reference to a fan-favorite cut from Hussle's critically-acclaimed mixtape The Marathon.

In the time since his tragic murder, the Grammy-nominated lyricist has been memorialized far and wide.

Earlier this month, Hussle's beloved hometown of South Central L.A. renamed the intersection of Crenshaw Boulevard and West Slauson Avenue to Ermias "Nipsey Hussle" Asghedom Square, in honor of the Victory Laplyricist. There are also a number of murals in L.A. that honor the slain star.
