The Notorious B.I.G.’s birthday celebrated today with a street named after him in Brooklyn

Des Willie/RedfernsToday would have been the 47th birthday of the late Notorious B.I.G., and he’s being remembered with a street named after him in Brooklyn, New York.

His mother, Voletta Wallace, and his children, Christopher Jordan Wallace, 22, and T’Yanna Wallace, 25, announced today that St. James Place, where the rapper lived, will be officially changed to Christopher “Notorious B.I.G.” Wallace Way in a ceremony on June 10.

B.I.G. released his classic six-times platinum debut album, Ready to Die, in 1994 featuring the hits “Juicy” and “Big Poppa.” While promoting his second album, Born Again, he was fatally shot in Los Angeles on March 9, 1997 and died at the age of 24. His murder remains unsolved.

The album was released on March 25, 1997 and was certified 11-times platinum. It included the number one hit, “Mo Money Mo Problems” featuring Puff Daddy and Mase. Three more posthumous albums have been released: Born Again in 1998, Duets: The Final Chapter in 2005, and The King and I in 2017 featuring his former wife, Faith Evans.

A biopic, Notorious, was released in 2009 starring Jamal WoolardAngela BassettDerek Luke, and Anthony Mackie.
