Alicia Keys and Swizz Beatz want to build a performing arts center in NY state

Dimitrios Kambouris/Getty Images for The Met Museum/VogueAlicia Keys and her husband are hoping to share their musical talent -- and knowledge of the music business -- with the next generation of aspiring artists.

The Rochester Democrat & Chronicle reports that Alicia and hubby Swizz Beatz want to build a performing arts center and campus in Macedon, NY, which is east of Rochester, NY.  Specifically, they're in contract for a 111-acre, $2.5 million site that was once an industrial research and development facility previously owned by Exxon Mobil.

The paper reports that according to a lawyer for the couple, the two have proposed a plan to turn existing buildings into classrooms, offices, a gym, an art museum to house the couple's large art collection, a performing arts center and a training area for artists and musicians. Dorms for students and housing for teachers is also part of the plan.

On August 19, the couple's lawyer plans to appear before the Macedon Planning Board to find out if the plans are acceptable under the town's current zoning guidelines. If they are, the Town Board would need to approve the project.

According to the paper, Macedon Town Engineer Scott Allen called the project "an exciting proposal."

This is just one of several projects Alicia has in the works: She has a new album, she's producing a movie for Netflix called Work It, and she'll publish her memoir More Myself: A Journey, on November 5.  And next month, she'll headline Harper's BAZAAR's annual ICONS Celebration during New York Fashion Week.
