ABC Image Group LA

Gabrielle Union has been tapped to star in a new romantic comedy inspired by a real-life interracial couple.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Union will star in and co-produce Chester Tam's yet-titled romantic comedy at Screen Gems that is inspired by his real life relationship.

The film will star Union as a newly single woman who begins dating a recently divorced Asian-American man. Although the story details have yet to be revealed, it is said to explore how a "drunken one-night stand" leads to a secret relationship which ends up surprising friends and family considering "that neither is typically the other's type."

The role of the male lead has yet to be cast in the film. Meanwhile, Tam is on board to both direct and write the script.

This is the latest project for Union, who previously starred in Will Packer's revenge thriller Breaking In.
