Micky Dolenz "really looking forward to" White Album tribute tour with Todd Rundgren and other stars

Courtesy of Flower Power Concerts Inc.An eclectic group of artists are taking part in a fall U.S. trek that will celebrate the 50th anniversary of The Beatles' 1968 self-titled double album, a.k.a. The White Album.

Dubbed "It Was Fifty Years Ago Today -- A Tribute to The Beatles' White Album," the trek kicks off September 21 in Atlantic City, New Jersey, and will feature The Monkees' Micky Dolenz, Todd Rundgren, Christopher Cross, Badfinger's Joey Molland and ex-Chicago singer Jason Scheff.

Dolenz tells ABC Radio that he's "really looking forward to" the trek because he's not only "a huge fan of The Beatles and The White Album," but also "of Chicago and Badfinger and Todd…and Christopher…all of 'em."

Micky says the shows will feature performances of "the vast majority" of the classic album's songs, as well as at least two memorable tunes from each guest artist's respective career.

Among the White Album songs Dolenz will be performing are "Rocky Raccoon" and "Yer Blues," plus two or three more. He says "Rocky Raccoon" stands out for him because it was "one of the songs I would sing my little kids as a lullaby."  As for his own songs, he says he'll probably be singing the Monkees hits "I'm a Believer" and "Pleasant Valley Sunday."

Dolenz also reveals that Rundgren will be singing "Helter Skelter" and "Everybody's Got Something to Hide Except Me and My Monkey" -- even though Micky says he wanted to do that one, for obvious reasons.

He adds that he hopes he'll be able to team up with some of the other artists to tackle some of The Beatles' trademark harmonies.

"I think that's going to be what makes it sort of unique is to have various…combinations of vocal sounds," Micky says. (AUDIO IS ABC 1-ON-1)
