Yasiin Bey aka Mos Def to celebrate 20th anniversary of 'Black on Both Sides' with rare headlining performances

Rawkus/PriorityYasiin Bey, aka Mos Def, is back and ready to gift fans with sheer nostalgia as he celebrates the 20th anniversary of his magnum opus, Black On Both Sides

Wednesday, it was announced that the veteran rapper will be performing his debut solo album in full for two nights only. The rare headlining shows are slated to kick off on October 25 on the campus of UC Berkeley with special guests Slick Rick, Erykah Badu and Busta Rhymes.

The following week, Yasiin will make his way to his native New York on November 3 to perform at Brooklyn Steel alongside Camp Lo

In addition, the enigmatic lyricist has been tapped to headline Tyler, the Creator's Camp Flog Gnaw Carnival on November 9.

Released in 1999 -- the year when Mos Def says he privately changed his name to Yasiin Bey -- Black on Both Sides has long been revered as one of the rapper's most seminal works. The socially conscious album peaked at number 25 on the Billboard 200, and spawned fan favorites such as "UMI Says," "Ms. Fat Booty" and "New World Water."

More recently, Yasiin debuted new music in April during a listening session as part of Art Basel Hong Kong. The work, called Negus, was a sound installation, which was based on music the rapper had recorded in London in 2015. The album was not made available digitally or physically.
