Cher's Mom Inspires Lifetime Documentary

LifetimeShe's been tweeting about it for a while, but now all the details have been revealed about a movie project Cher has been working on.  Just in time for Mother's Day, Cher's mom, Georgia Holt, will be the subject of an hour-long documentary airing on Lifetime May 6.

The doc, Dear Mom, Love Cher, tells Holt's story, from her childhood in rural Arkansas through her six marriages, her own career as an actress and singer and the years she spent helping Cher become a star.  It's built around interviews with Holt, Cher, Cher's sister Georganne and Cher's kids Chaz Bono and Elijah Blue Allman

In addition to "unprecedented access" to Cher's family, the documentary also features a never-before-heard duet that the Oscar-winning singer and her mom recorded more than 30 years ago.  The recording has been restored, and will be released later this year.

In a statement, Cher says, "This project started as a gift for my mom’s 86th birthday...So I went BIG (I’m known in the family for doing that).”

She adds, "My sister and I are proud of our mom and we want to share her with the world.  My mom is EXACTLY like Rocky.  She NEVER gives up!"

Dear Mom, Love Cher airs Monday, May 6 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on Lifetime.

The Band Perry Updates Their "Modern Throwback" Sound with "Pioneer," in Stores Today

Republic NashvilleThe Band Perry's sophomore album, Pioneer, is now in stores.  The sibling trio is out to expand people's perception of that word, "pioneer," beyond covered wagons and bonnets.  That's why they're dressed in cutting edge clothes on the cover, and you might also notice they're leaning forward in that cover photo too.

The group's Neil Perry tells ABC News Radio, "There's so much to be discovered still.  And if you look at the cover as well, we're kind of leaning forward.  So, we wanted to point out that there's a forward motion with The Band Perry.  We're marching on."

That pioneering spirit showed up in the musical choices The Band Perry made on the album too.  Lead singer Kimberly Perry describes their style as "modern throwback," and the acoustic sound that marked hits like "You Lie" and "If I Die Young" is still represented on Pioneer.  But some tracks push the envelope a little more, incorporating the Perrys' shared love for rock and roll.  One track, "Forever Mine Nevermind," features Brad Paisley on guitar as well as high harmonies from the Perry boys inspired by the rock group Queen.

"This very modern output of music from us probably also has the most amount of teeth of anything that we've had," Kimberly says of their new musical direction.  "Most aggression.  Multiple electric guitars.  Some very bold musical moments."

Finding that new direction wasn't easy for The Band Perry, and they had a lot of questions about where to go next after scoring a huge hit with "If I Die Young."  They address that early confusion with the title track, "Pioneer."

Speaking of that track, Reid Perry explains, "It asks, 'Where are we going?  What will become of us?'  It in itself is a question, and the question we were asking, and we didn't have a lot of the answers.  Only that there was this unknown that we were marching into, but that we just had to put one foot in front of the other.  So, that, for us, is what Pioneer is."

Pioneer has already produced another #1 hit for The Band Perry with "Better Dig Two."  The video for the second single, "DONE.," hits Vevo Tuesday.  Look for The Band Perry to talk about their new album on ABC's Nightline Tuesday night.

Garbage Looking to Release Next Album in 2014

StunvolumeIt looks like we won’t have to wait seven years to get our hands on the next Garbage album.  Drummer Butch Vig says that he’s hoping to get the band into the studio this summer to begin recording tracks for the follow-up to 2012's Not Your Kind of People.

"We'd like to see a record come out next year," he tells Billboard.  “We may try to go into the studio in June and start working on another album.  We don't really have any songs started yet, but we all have ideas for songs.”

Vig adds that the band members have been bonding during their recent world tour to promote Not Your Kind of People.  "Everyone's getting along," he explains.  "We're really having fun at the shows.  We look out for each other, too; if someone's down and not feeling very good, we try to pick them up.  It's very much like a little, dysfunctional functioning family."

In other Garbage news, the band recently revealed they'll be releasing a limited edition 10-inch vinyl record on Record Store Day, April 20.  The record will feature an original song titled “Love Like Suicide,” a cover of Patti Smith’s “Because the Night” featuring the Screaming Females and a fan-made remix of “Automatic Systematic Habit” from Not Your Kind of People.

Jury Selection Begins Tuesday in Michael Jackson Wrongful Death Trial

MichaelJackson.comJury selection begins Tuesday in Los Angeles in a trial stemming from a wrongful death lawsuit brought by Michael Jackson's mother against concert promoter AEG Live.

Katherine Jackson is suing the company, which was behind the King of Pop's aborted This Is It tour, for 40 billion dollars. She claims AEG contributed to her son's death by hiring the doctor who gave him a fatal dose of the powerful anesthetic propofol.

ABC News legal analyst Royal Oakes says the trial reportedly will feature appearances by Michael's two oldest children, son Prince Michael and daughter Paris.

Oakes says, "Prince Michael The First will talk about hearing discussions of Michael's health, and he'll also talk about the day they tried to resuscitate Michael Jackson when he died. Also, Paris will testify, again, about observing the attempt to resuscitate Jackson."

On the other side, Oakes adds, AEG will contend that it only told Dr. Conrad Murray "to do what he could to keep Jackson in concert-ready shape."

In November of 2011, Murray was convicted of involuntary manslaughter for administering a fatal dose of propofol to Jackson, who died in June 2009 at the age of 50.

"The Voice" Recap: Firefighter, Ex-Child Star, Former Country Recording Artist Highlight Latest Auditions

Adam Taylor/NBCThe Voice aired its third night of season-four blind auditions on Monday night. Adam Levine, Blake Shelton, Shakira and Usher were back to listen in on contestants hoping to earn a spot on one of the teams.

By the end of Monday night's episode, Shakira had a total of seven contestants on her team. Adam and Usher had six, and Blake had five.

Here's a rundown of the auditions:

The Swon Brothers from Oklahoma opened the night with a performance of "American Girl" by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. Blake, Usher and Shakira all turned around their chairs for the duo. Blake loved the name of the group, joking that one day they may be able to say that they "swon" The Voice. Get it? In choosing a coach, the Swon Brothers said they would "stick with our Oklahoma man," meaning Blake.

Taylor Beckham is a 17-year-old redhead from Dallas who previously aspired to be a gymnast. She showed off her R&B leanings with "I'm Going Down," made famous by Rose Royce and later Mary J. Blige. Usher told her it would be an "incredible journey" to work with her. Adam interjected that he'd rarely seen Usher that excited about a contestant. Though Shakira did her best to convince Taylor to join her team, the teen went with Usher.

Sam Alves, a 23-year-old originally from Brazil, tackled "Feeling Good," which has been recorded by the likes of Nina Simone and Michael Bublé. None of the coaches pressed their buttons for Sam. Adam noted that the song needed a kind of perfection that was lacking from Sam. Shakira, a native of Colombia, lamented the fact that Sam would have to go home.

Adam and Blake really liked Karina Iglesias, 35, who sang "I'm the Only One" by Melissa Etheridge, but for whatever reason they debated what to do until the last possible moment, when they turned their chairs around. Adam complimented her powerful vocals, and Karina eventually selected him as her coach.

Seventeen-year-old Garrett Gardner returned to the Voice stage after a failed audition last season. He did an unusual reggae version of the White Stripes hit "Seven Nation Army." Adam recognized him and said he was so happy that Garrett came back stronger. Garrett joined Team Shakira.

Holly Tucker, 19, is a member of the Baylor University marching band. She belted out "To Make You Feel My Love," which has been recorded by a slew of artists such as Bob Dylan, Billy Joel, Garth Brooks, and Trisha Yearwood. All four coaches made a bid for Holly, who said she identified herself as a country music singer. Not surprisingly, she picked Blake.

Landon Medvec was rejected by the coaches after his attempt at James Morrison's "You Give Me Something."

The bespectacled Michelle Chamuel delivered a rendition of Katy Perry's first hit, "I Kissed a Girl." She sought guidance from the three coaches who turned their chairs around for her -- Adam, Shakira and Usher. When Usher asked her which style of music she prefers, she answered that she wants to be an electro-pop artist. She's going to try to make her dreams come true with Usher.

Julie Roberts from Nashville had an interesting tale: she once had a recording contract, with her first album going gold. Around that time she even performed on The Tonight Show. But her second album didn't do as well and she parted ways with her label. She made the bold decision to sing Blake's "God Gave Me You." None of the coaches pressed their buttons. Blake recognized her and apologized profusely for not giving her a chance.

Monique Abbadie, a former child star on a Spanish-language show, kind of sounded like Shakira -- which was good, because she sang Shakira's "Loca." The pop star was impressed by the aggression in Monique's voice. The two will work together going forward this season.

Warren Stone, a firefighter from South Carolina, closed the show with "Colder Weather" by Zac Brown Band. Adam, Blake and Shakira dueled for Warren's services. In a bit of an upset, Warren went with Adam, who called it his first triumph in his occasional battle with Blake for pop/country contestants.

There will be another round of auditions on Tuesday night's one-hour episode of The Voice, airing at 8 p.m. Eastern time on NBC.

Young Money EntertainmentDrake has signed with the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers, or ASCAP, for short.

"For me, a big part of making music is getting the opportunity to work with people I love, trust and respect," Drake says in a statement.  "As an organization run by music creators, ASCAP represents a whole community of kindred spirits."  The decision to join ASCAP was a "natural choice" for Drake, who adds that "I know my music is in the best possible hands."

ASCAP works to protect the rights of songwriters, composers and music publishers.  Among its duties, ASCAP licenses and promotes the music of its members and foreign affiliates, and ensures that artists get fair compensation for the public performance of their works.

One Direction Worth $39 Million; Harry Styles Not Recording Solo Songs

Peter Kramer/NBCThe guys of One Direction are headed toward crazy rich.

Just three years after Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne and Louis Tomlinson came together as the band One Direction, they've earned almost $39 million, or about $7.8 million for each guy, reports the Irish Sun.  The band's superstar status earnings has them poised to be dubbed the richest boy band on the Sunday Times' annual Young Musicians Rich List.  Last year, Adele took the top spot on the Young Musicians list, which will be out later this month.

In other 1D news, is Harry looking to establish a solo career?  The U.K. publication Mirror claims Harry was in the studio in Hollywood, California, as recently as last week, recording several songs for a solo effort.

However, it appears as though this report is erroneous, since a spokesperson for the band told another British tabloid, the Daily Mail, "Harry is not recording solo material. All of the band are working on tracks for their third album. Harry is putting together some ideas for the record. The boys sometimes work up ideas separately as well as working together, as they did last year."

So don't worry, 1D fans: Harry isn't going anywhere anytime soon.

Justin Bieber Tweets TMZ Phone Number As April Fool's Joke

Image Courtesy Justin Bieber via TwitterJustin Bieber pulled a fast one on his fans -- and on TMZ -- on April Fool's Day.

The Hollywood Reporter says Justin posted a tweet on Monday in which he claimed, "As promised taking all fan phone calls TODAY at (888) 847 9869. Talk to u soon!"

Any fan who dialed that number didn't get the chance to chat with Justin, though. That's because it's actually the number to call to pass along a tip to TMZ. The number is clearly displayed at the top of the TMZ website.

Justin, who has four concert dates in Germany lined up for this week, deleted the tweet later in the day. It seems TMZ has yet to respond to the prank.

Perhaps this was payback on Justin's part for all of the stories TMZ has published lately about his personal drama?
