Hoobastank to Release "Fight or Flight" in July, Offers Single “This Is Gonna Hurt” for Free Download

Facebook.com/HoobastankIt’s been three years since we’ve gotten any new music from Hoobastank, but now that’s all about to change. The band has just announced that they will release their fifth studio album, Fight or Flight, in July.  The album will feature ten new songs including their first single, “This Is Gonna Hurt,” which is current available for free download at Hoobastank.com.

“We’ve been on this journey for a long time now,” frontman Doug Robb said in a statement.  “It’s like a clean slate, but not in a bad way -- quite the opposite.  We’re no longer trying to satisfy others, not even on a subconscious level; we’re comfortable in our own skin.”

Fight or Flight is set to hit stores on July 31.

Jane’s Addiction’s Perry Farell: Adam Yauch Was a “Really Good Guy Trying to Help People”

Kyle Dean ReinfordThe music world has been quick to react to news of the death of Beastie Boys co-founder Adam "MCA" Yauch, who lost his three-year battle with cancer on Friday at age 47.  Jane’s Addiction frontman Perry Farrell tells Rolling Stone that he had a strong a connection with the band and that he felt they were like "family, but once removed.”

Farrell added that he knew that Yauch wasn’t  doing well in his fight against cancer because of the messages he’d receive from the rapper in recent years. “He would text me really kind of sad things. He would say, ‘We're giving up our studio. If you want to use our studio, you can use it.’ It's really a very sad feeling; it's kind of like an estate sale.”

In addition, the singer paid tribute to the late rapper, saying, “He was a really good guy trying to help people, and all about being innocent and wild, and even immature if you want to be. He's probably in a great place, and I'm thinking about him and everybody's prayers are with him.”

Who News: Daltrey-Signed Mic Sells Via Online Auction; Townshend Performs at Canadian Awards Gala

Kevin Mazur/WireImageThe microphone that The Who's Roger Daltrey signed and donated to charity during his recent solo tour of Japan was auctioned off via eBay.co.uk over the weekend for 1,090 pounds, the equivalent of about $1,765.  The proceeds raised from the sale will be split evenly between the Japanese Red Cross' efforts to aid victims of the country's 2011 tsunami and the U.K.'s Teenage Cancer Trust.

In other Who-related news, Pete Townshend made a surprise appearance Saturday night at the 20th Anniversary Governor General's Performing Arts Awards Gala in Ottawa, Canada.  The guitarist/songwriter was on hand to pay tribute to musical theater luminary Des McAnuff, who collaborated with the rock legend on the 1992 stage adaptation of The Who's classic rock opera Tommy.

According to the Ottawa Citizen, Townshend took to the stage and performed two Tommy songs, "Pinball Wizard" and "See Me, Feel Me," alongside McAnuff and some other musicians.  McAnuff was among the event's eight honorees, receiving the 2012 National Arts Centre Award.

Also honored at the gala was Rush, who were awarded the Lifetime Artistic Achievement (Popular Music) prize.  South Park co-creator Matt Stone presented the honor to the band's three members -- singer/bassist Geddy Lee, guitarist Alex Lifeson and drummer Neil Peart.

Fergie Launching Wine Brand, Wants to Branch Out into Sports Apparel

PRNewsFoto/wet n wildIn addition to her music career, Fergie is a woman of many brands.  She has three signature fragrances through Avon, including her new one, Viva; she has a line of shoes, she's the spokesperson for Wet 'n Wild cosmetics and she's the face of Voli low-cal vodka.  Now Forbes reports that Fergie's latest business venture is another foray into the world of alcoholic beverages: she's bringing out her own wine.

Forbes reports that Fergie recently bought an entire vineyard, partly as an investment, and partly as a gift to her dad, who loves horticulture, and who taught her to grow fruits and berries as a kid.  It's called Ferguson Crest, and its first wines will be launched this summer.

"It’s an investment,” Fergie says of the winery.  "I’m investing in real estate.  Plus, my dad is going to have a great house.”  It won't be a high-volume business: she plans to produce about 1,000 cases of Syrah, as well as Viognier and Cabernet Sauvignon.

In addition, Forbes reports that Fergie's Wet 'n Wild deal will soon include a signature nail polish, and she's planning to bring out a line of shoes for young people called Fergalicious.  On top of that, she wants to move into clothing, and design workout gear.  "I have a lot to bring to the table as far as fashionable fitness apparel,” she tells Forbes.  “These are things I know.”

Besides singer, entrepreneur and businesswoman, Fergie says she also enjoys her other role as wife to actor Josh Duhamel.  "That’s another brand of mine -- wife!" she laughs.  "That’s definitely a brand I thoroughly enjoy investing in.”

Nicki Minaj Makes Debut in New Pepsi Ads

Photo by Kevin Winter/Getty Images for DCPThe usually animated Nicki Minaj gets frozen in time in a new commercial for Pepsi that features snippets from her song "Moment 4 Life."  Back in March, it was announced that Nicki had signed a major endorsement deal with the soda brand.

The just-released Pepsi ad begins when a guy and girl crack open their respective cans of soda, magically freezing the city scene around them.  "I wish that I could have this moment for life," sounds Nicki's voice as the camera shows a skateboarder hanging in mid-air and people on the sidewalk fixed in place.

The Pepsi pair step into an open van, and they're transported to a beach, where Nicki's "Moment 4 Life" chorus pumps through the air.  The couple saunters through a volleyball game and then a tomato-throwing festival, before arriving on a fashion show runway that eventually leads them down an arena aisle where Nicki is on the stage, standing as still as a statue.

The guy and girl pop the tabs on two more cans of Pepsi, and just as they take their first gulps of the soda, Nicki and the rest of the world is brought back into motion.  "I wish that I could have this moment for life... for life... for life..." Nicki sings.

In addition to the one-and-a-half minute clip, Pepsi has also released 60-second and 30-second spots.  The 30-second clip begins with a shot of frozen Nicki, mid-performance.  It's "The best one!" Nicki tweeted of the video on Monday.

Kanye West Calls Out Fashion "Don'ts" on Twitter: Khaki Cargo Shorts, Long Sideburns, Striped Scarves

Universal Music Group

Kanye West rails against two-faced people and copycats on his remix of Chief Keef's "I Don't Like," but the Windy City rapper's list of pet peeves certainly don't stop there.  "Just driving through the city and I see a few thing I hate," Kanye tweeted, before rattling off a list of what he considers to be unfortunate wardrobe choices.

Here are some of the fashion blunders that irk Kanye:

_ I hate button-up shirts with hoodies
_ I hate hoodies with sport coats
_ I hate sport coats with button-up shirts, jeans and dress shoes
_ I hate khaki trench coats with jeans and off-brand workout sneakers
_ I hate khaki cargo shorts
_ I hate big-ass striped scarves
_ I hate long-ass sideburns with the line up RnB beard

Kanye, who debuted his second clothing line in Paris earlier this year, capped his fashion tweets with the message: "#I'm on my snob."

Fellow Beastie Boys Remember Adam "MCA" Yauch

Phil AndelmanFollowing the death of Beastie BoysAdam Yauch on Friday, the singer's bandmates Adam Horovitz, aka Ad-Rock, and Michael Diamond, aka Mike D, have issued statements reacting to the sad news.

Horovitz posted a note on the band’s blog that reads, "As you can imagine, s**t is just fkd up right now. But I wanna say thank you to all our friends and family (which are kinda one in the same) for all the love and support. I’m glad to know that all the love that Yauch has put out into the world is coming right back at him. Thank you.”

Diamond, meanwhile, took to the band’s Facebook page to share his feelings. He wrote, “The last few days have just been a blur of deep emotions for our closest friend, bandmate and really brother. I miss Adam so much."

Diamond added, "He really served as a great example for myself and so many of what determination, faith, focus, and humility coupled with a sense of humor can accomplish. The world is in need of many more like him. We love you Adam.”

Muslim Group Calling for Cancellation of Lady Gaga's Indonesia Show; Her Teacup Auctioned for $75,000

ABC/ Lou RoccoLady Gaga's concert in South Korea last month caused some controversy when fans under age 18 were banned from attending, and conservative Christians in that country protested the show on the grounds that she promotes homosexuality.  Now, Gaga is facing similar opposition in Indonesia.

The Wall Street Journal reports that a hard-line Muslim group called Islamic Defenders' Front is calling for the cancellation of Gaga's June 3 show in Jakarta.  A spokesperson for the group said, "Lady Gaga insults all religions. Even Christians in Korea opposed her. She is promoting the worship of Satan.”

Last week, The Jakarta Post reports that chairman of the Islamic Defenders Front made a vague threat of violence if the concert wasn't canceled. "If you want chaos in Jakarta, just continue to hold the concert,” the chairman as quoted as saying.  Back in March, a Muslim scholar told the Jakarta Globe that Gaga's performances were forbidden under Islam because she wears revealing clothes onstage.

In more encouraging overseas Lady Gaga news, Bloomberg reports that an autographed teacup and saucer that she donated to a Japanese charity auction has raised six million yen -- that's $75,000 -- to help sponsor young Japanese artists who want to study in the U.S.   The cup hasn't been washed since Gaga drank Diet Coke out of it at a press conference last June in Tokyo.  It bears her lipstick print and the words "We Pray for Japan."

Thompson Square's Career Started with Cruise Ship Karaoke

Stoney Creek RecordsKeifer and Shawna Thompson of Thompson Square met while both competing in a talent competition in Nashville just days after they moved to town in 1996.  The couple had an instant connection and tied the knot three years later, but they didn't actually sing together until their honeymoon.

Keifer and Shawna were on a cruise and some people they met there convinced them to get up and sing karaoke together.  Shawna tells the Palm Beach Post, "We got up there and did Clint Black and Wynonna’s A Bad Goodbye, and that was our first duet experience.”

Keifer and Shawna liked what they heard when their voices combined.

"We both have a lot of country-rock influence but Shawna’s voice is more traditional-sounding," Keifer explains. "I’ve got a little grit in my throat. My rough voice combined with her smooth voice just makes a unique sound."

Thompson Square's vocal blend can be heard on their new single, "Glass," now climbing the country charts.

Jake Owen Marries Lacey Buchanan in Sunrise Ceremony on the Beach

RCAJake Owen tied the knot with model Lacey Buchanan in a sunrise ceremony on the beach Monday morning in Jake's hometown of Vero Beach, FL. According to People, the couple was barefoot; Lacey wore an Amsale gown and veil, while Jake wore a white linen Armani shirt and drawstring Tommy Bahama pants.

It was Jake's idea to get married on the beach at sunrise. He says, "It's symbolic of the dawn of a new day and starting our new life together."

Jake's twin brother Jarrod served as best man, and Lacey's sister Leah was her maid of honor. Jake's uncle Ron Owen officiated the service. After the ceremony, the wedding party walked to the patio of the Vero Beach Hotel and spa for champagne, a cake cutting and brunch.

In a tweet Monday morning, Jake called Lacey his "best friend for life" and added, "My face hurts from smiling. What a wonderful way to start the rest of my life."

The couple will take a honeymoon before Jake hits the road with Tim McGraw and Kenny Chesney on their Brothers of the Sun tour June 2 in Tampa, FL.

Lacey appeared in Jake's "Barefoot Blue Jean Night" video, and he popped the question onstage last month during a concert in Vero Beach.

"Glee" Does One Direction, Ke$ha, Fergie & More on Prom Episode

Mike Yarish/FOXBack in 1986, all the kids at prom were slow dancing to "Take My Breath Away," a love ballad by the group Berlin that was featured in the Tom Cruise flick Top Gun.  Well, some things never change, because on Tuesday's episode of Glee, it's prom night, and you'll see everyone dancing to "Take My Breath Away," as performed by Santana and Quinn.

But the episode, called "Prom-asauraus," features plenty of current songs as well.  Just as Glee covered The Wanted's "Glad You Came" a couple months ago, they're now taking on the hit song by that other British boy band.  That's right, New Directions is covering One Direction, as Mike, Rory, Sam, Joe and Artie sing "What Makes You Beautiful."

Other songs featured include Fergie's ballad "Big Girls Don't Cry," sung by Rachel and -- oddly -- Kurt and Blaine, as well as the Ke$ha song "Dinosaur," sung by Brittany to reflect the fact that, as class president, she wants a dinosaur theme for the prom.  Selena Gomez's "Love You Like a Love Song," sung by Santana and the Trouble Tones, completes the soundtrack for the episode.

In the episode, the kids campaign to be prom king and queen, while some of the outcasts organize a rival event.  It airs Tuesday at 8 p.m. on Fox.

In addition, the documentary is available in 42 country-specific versions in 30 different languages.
