A statement from his rep reads:

"The family of Robin Gibb, of the Bee Gees, announce with great sadness that Robin passed away today following his long battle with cancer and intestinal surgery. The family have asked that their privacy is respected at this very difficult time."

Last month, Gibb was comatose for more than a week after being hospitalized for pneumonia.

Gibbs' health had been in serious decline for years. In 2010, he underwent a series of surgeries for a life-threatening intestinal condition, the same that killed his twin brother, Maurice [Morris], in 2003. Earlier this year, he announced that he'd been battling liver cancer and was in remission. But then in March, he underwent further intestinal surgery.

Formed in Australia with brothers Robin, Barry and Maurice, the Bee Gees were a hit as early as 1960, while still in their teens. However, it wasn't until they sent a demo tape to then-Beatles manager Brian Epstein in 1967, who in turn passed it on to their eventual longtime producer Robert Stigwood, that their career took off.

The Bee Gees' first hit was the 1967 single "New York Mining Disaster 1941," though international stardom came in the 1970s, when they locked in their now-familiar sound with hits like "How Do You Mend a Broken Heart," "Lonely Days," "Run to Me," "Jive Talking'," "Nights on Broadway" and "You Should Be Dancing."

The Bee Gees were catapulted to international super-stardom with the 1977 release of the soundtrack to the John Travolta movie Saturday Night Fever. The album ultimately went 15 times platinum on the strength of number-one Bee Gees hits "Night Fever," "How Deep Is Your Love" and the signature track, "Stayin' Alive." It earned the Bee Gees Grammys in both 1978 and 1979 and made them the most sought-after songwriters and producers in the industry.

Such was the popularity of Saturday Night Fever, and the Bee Gees, during that era, that on March 25, 1978, five songs written by the brothers Gibb were in the U.S. top ten simultaneously: Their own "Night Fever," "Stayin' Alive" and "If I Can't Have You," plus "Emotion," which they wrote for Samantha Sang, and "Love Is Thicker than Water," a hit they'd written for their little brother Andy Gibb. That level of chart domination hadn't been seen since 1964, when the Beatles locked down the top five spots on the U.S. singles chart.

Saturday Night Fever proved to be a mixed blessing for the Bee Gees. The trio was caught in the eventual 1980s backlash against disco, with Saturday Night Fever's success casting the brothers as the embodiment of disco culture. In the follow years, while continuing to write and produce hits for other artists, including Barbra Streisand, Kenny Rogers, Dionne Warwick and Diana Ross, the Bee Gees kept a low profile as a group -- at least in the U.S. -- until the 1990s, when it became cool to like them again. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997.

After the death of Maurice, Barry and Robin Gibb said initially that they intended to carry on as the Bee Gees, but then decided to retire the name, which they felt represented all three of them as a group. Still, they continued to perform on and off together at special events, and Robin continued to write, produce and perform as a solo artist, despite his health issues. He joined Barry Gibb in 2009 for a performance on ABC's Dancing with the Stars, in celebration of their 50th anniversary, and in 2010 for a widely-praised performance on American Idol. In April, the Fox show Glee saluted the Bee Gees with an episode devoted to their music.

The singer-songwriter tells Rolling Stone that the largely a cappella song was produced by friend and fellow Sing Off judge Ben Folds. Though Sara says she considers Ben to be a "kindred [spirit] ... [and] musical hero," their collab wasn't her first thought. It wasn't until Sara visited Ben's Nashville studio that she knew she wanted to record there. Then, she says, "It dawned on me, 'Why not just see if Ben would even be interested in producing?'" Happily, Sara says, the idea was exciting to Ben, "So it worked out good."

To Sara, the new songs represent a new direction and a "sonic rawness... that’s a new territory for me... [and that's] about nurturing my bravery and how far can I push myself as a writer." On Friday, Sara tweeted some rawness when she teased fans with the tweet, "Hi lovies!! @rollingstone is streaming the title track from my EP. It's called "B****es eat Breakfast". (no it's not)."

The EP may signal a new direction for the whole album, Sara hints. She tells Rolling Stone the goal of her upcoming album is to step out of her comfort zone and could include collaborations with Ryan Tedder and others. Being produced by someone else and writing with others are also new frontiers for Sara. "I've always been really closed off to the idea of co-writing. Now, for some reason, I’m much more open to it," she says. Why the hesitation to collaborate like other artists? Sara laughs and says, "I’m antiquated."

In an expletive-filled rant on his Facebook page on Thursday, Ronson took aim at the published version of an interview he gave the Village Voice earlier this month, writing, "i read the interview for the first time just now, and there are so many wrong quotes in there. i can tell the dude was writing whatever he wanted because he uses words and language that i never EVER f**king use in my daily life."

However, Billboard reports that, according to a reliable tour source, "fatigue" amongst the band mates is behind the postponements.

"They're just burnt and they want to take some time off," maintains the source, explaining that tickets for the shows have been selling very well.

The source also suggests that Van Halen initially added the now-shelved concerts to its schedule because "everything was going so well," while not realizing "how tired they were." In all, more than 30 shows were removed from the band's itinerary.

Meanwhile, the source reveals that the rockers "are going to go out and do some more" shows, but an exact time frame for the gigs has yet to be decided.

Beyonce has been in rehearsals for nearly a month, preparing for her first live performances since last summer. "That's why we're here almost a month before the show so we can be prepared," the 30-year-old singer dished on Friday's Good Morning America.

Fans, many of whom were gathered in Times Square, New York on Friday dressed like bees -- a nod to Beyonce's fans, whom she calls the "Beyhive" -- also got a behind-the-scenes look of the show. Exclusive footage showed background dancers dressed in extravagant costumes twirling about the stage.

Beyonce's four shows -- all of which sold out less than a minute after going on sale -- will take place May 25-28.

Revel is Atlantic City's first smoke-free casino resort. It includes a 5,000-seat Ovation Hall, hotel, several nightclubs, a spa, a dozen restaurants and more.

In other Beyonce news, the singer penned a note to the late Donna Summer. In a message posted to her website, Bey writes that Summer, "was so much more than the queen of disco she became known for, she was an honest and gifted singer with flawless vocal talent." Beyonce, who counts herself as a "huge fan" of Donna says she was honored to sample Summer's song "Love to Love You Baby," on her 2004 hit "Naughty Girl."
