TSA Now Checks All Passengers Against Watch Lists

Photo Courtesy -- Getty Images(WASHINGTON) – In another change in airport security, the TSA is now checking all passengers traveling to and from the United States against government watch lists.

The Department of Homeland Security said Tuesday the Secure Flight Program has put the TSA in charge of monitoring the lists rather than airlines -- a recommendation made after 9/11.

“The threats we face in the aviation sector are real and evolving, and we must confront them with strong and dynamic security measures,” said TSA Administrator John S. Pistole. “Secure Flight bolsters our efforts to be more intelligence-driven and risk-based in our approach to aviation security.”

The change for passengers is expected to be minimal. The government will now require a passengers full name, date of birth and gender when booking a flight. That information will be made available to the TSA seconds after the reservation is made.
