(BOSTON) -- Former New England Patriots star Aaron Hernandez, already in jail accused of one murder, was indicted on Thursday for his part in a 2012 double murder in Boston.
Hernandez had already been facing a murder charge related to the shooting death of former friend Odin Lloyd. On Thursday, he was officially charged with two counts of first-degree murder in connection with the July 2012 shooting of Daniel de Abreu and Safiro Furtado.
The two were "ambushed and executed," a prosecutor said, as they drove home from a club in Boston's South End.
According to prosecutor Dan Conley, Hernandez stands accused of firing the .38 caliber revolver used in the shootings through the driver's side of an SUV, which was later recovered at a Connecticut home belonging to Hernandez' uncle.
Hernandez was charged with first-degree murder and weapons violations in August 2013 in connection with the death of Odin Lloyd. He was also involved in a jailhouse fight in February, for which he was charged with assault and battery.
