Calif. Wildfire Prompts Smoke Advisories in Bay Area

iStockphoto/Thinkstock(SAN FRANCISCO) -- A smoky wildfire in a San Francisco Bay Area wilderness park has prompted a smoke advisory in three California counties.

Cal Fire spokesman David Shew said Monday that about 100 homes have been evacuated since the fast-moving fire in Mount Diablo State Park erupted on Sunday. Contra Costa, Alameda and Santa Clara counties are all under smoke advisories. Fire crews are dealing with erratic winds, high temperatures and steep terrain, according to Shew.

"The fire is now 20 percent contained, but unfortunately, the fire almost doubled in size in just a few hours," he said.

Hundreds of extra firefighters have arrived to battle the 3,000-acre fire. Shew says the blaze is burning in an area where people have large animals, horses, cattle and sheep. Members from surrounding communities are offering their land for people to bring their horses for evacuation.
