(INGLEWOOD, Calif.) -- A woman and her 14-year-old daughter are safe after being held at gunpoint for nearly nine hours on Wednesday. The gunman, the woman's boyfriend, surrendered to authorities.
Police responded to a report of a man beating a 14-year-old girl at about 3 p.m. on Wednesday. When the officers arrived at the home, the suspect reported fired on them. As more officers responded to the scene, police say the man yelled that he was willing to die for his crime.
The man surrendered at about 12 a.m. Thursday, both hostages were found safe, according to ABC's Los Angeles affiliate, KABC.
The incident was captured on camera by neighbors.
One police officer was struck in the chest by a bullet, but his chest protector saved his life. A second officer suffered minor injuries.
