Changes Coming after Violence Mars NFL Game in San Francisco

Stockbyte/Thinkstock(SAN FRANCISCO) -- Things are going to change at Candlestick Park in San Francisco as a result of violence that occurred at last Saturday’s NFL pre-season game between the 49ers and Oakland Raiders in which two men were shot and one was beaten unconscious.

The 49ers management said Monday that it would forbid tailgating in the parking lot once a game is started, and would beef up police and security inside and outside the stadium to stop fans from acting aggressively.

There’s also talk of ending the exhibition games between the Niners and their Oakland rivals, which seems to bring out spectators’ worst behavior.

A 24-year-old man who was shot in the stomach four times after last weekend's game, presumably for wearing a t-shirt unflattering to the 49ers, is now listed in fair condition.  Another man is now out of the hospital after receiving superficial wounds to his face in a separate shooting.

Among the fights that took place inside the stadium, one man was beaten unconscious in a restroom during the fourth quarter.  He’s now listed in fair condition.

Police are still searching for the suspects involved in the assaults.
