(EDGEFIELD, S.C.) -- While recovering from Thursday's winter storm, South Carolina also faced an earthquake.
The 4.1 quake hit near the town of Edgefield, South Carolina Friday night.
Derrec Becker of South Carolina Emergency Management says they were flooded with calls from startled residents. The quake rattled houses as far as 50 miles away, even shaking some homes across the border in Georgia.
Debra Staples in Winder, Georgia said, "It felt like something maybe hit the house or maybe something close by exploded."
"About 20 seconds after the first one, there was this huge shift and I mean I didn't fall out of the couch or anything, but you could feel the whole house just shaking," Staples said.
