Fight to Contain Colorado Wildfire Gains Momentum

Hemera Technologies/Thinkstock(LARIMER COUNTY, Colo.) -- Snow is helping Colorado firefighters gain control over a wildfire west of Fort Collins that grew to 2,000 acres overnight into Sunday.

“That will go a long way into helping us get this fire under control,” said John Schulz of the Larimer County Sheriff’s Department.

“We had very high winds in the neighborhood of 50 to 60 miles per hour, which just whipped that fire up and it just took off, and obviously expanding from 20 acres to over 2,000 acres,” Schulz said.

Officials have evacuated more than 330 homes.

Now that winds have shifted, conditions are helping to push the fire back onto itself.
