Five Injured at Bakersfield Steam Plant Implosion

iStockphoto/Thinkstock(BAKERSFIELD, Calif.) -- Authorities say five spectators were injured on Saturday morning when shrapnel went flying at the implosion of an out-of-commission steam power plant in Bakersfield, Calif.

According to the Los Angeles Times, one of the people who were injured in the implosion lost his leg. The victims were there to witness the demolition of the Pacific Gas & Electric plant. They were watching the implosion from a nearby Lowe's parking lot when they were hit by shrapnel.

Several people who were there to watch the implosion were treated on for minor to serious cuts, and a number of cars -- including a police cruiser -- were damaged, says the Bakersfield Californian.
