(SACRAMENTO, Calif.) -- A career firefighter who fled after his longtime girlfriend was found murdered has been captured in California.
Sacramento police say they apprehended former fire battalion chief Orville "Moe" Fleming on Friday, after he spent two weeks on the run.
Fleming became a wanted man after his 26-year-old girlfriend of two years, Sarah June Douglas, was found strangled and stabbed to death in their home.
Sacramento Sheriff Scott Jones says Fleming was spotted out in the open, not far from the scene of the crime.
"One of the detectives was in the area, and saw someone that looked like it might be Mr. Fleming board a public bus, and he was taken into custody without incident," Jones said.
Fleming was arrested and charged with murder.
