Hurricane Sandy: Moments of Impact

Mario Tama/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- It's been one year since Hurricane Sandy made landfall.  The storm, which some forecasters said would be the worst in generations, lived up to its strength and people are still picking up the pieces.

Barreling up the East Coast, Hurricane Sandy's power and wide path of destruction was documented by TV news crews and civilians armed with cameras.  The following videos underscore the very real danger that came with spying on Sandy:

Tanker Runs Aground: The storm surge moved a 170-foot-long tanker to land in Staten Island, N.Y.

Power Plant Explosion: Parts of lower Manhattan lose power after an explosion at Con Edison power station.

Building Wall Crumbles: The exterior of a building collapses during Sandy's heavy rains and wind.

Blaze in Breezy Point: A six-alarm fire breaks out in the flooded borough of Queens, N.Y.

Crane Collapse: A crane partially collapses at a high-rise building under construction in Manhattan.

Disappearing Highway: The storm surge in Rodanthe, N.C., floods a roadway and beachside homes.

Battered Boardwalk: Planks of wood are twisted and tossed by the powerful storm as it approaches New Jersey.

North Carolina Highway Washed Out: Portions of Highway 12 along Outer Banks are damaged, covered in sand and water.

TV Reporters Battle Sandy: Heavy winds, rain and sea foam aren't enough to deter journalists from covering the story along the East Coast.
