Intense Rainfall Hits Drought-Stricken Northern Calif.

iStock/Thinkstock(SAN FRANCISCO) -- Rain is finally falling in drought-stricken Northern California.

But the rain is falling so hard and fast that it is causing problems, including standing water on the freeway and flooded basements.

As Meteorologist Bruce Sullivan with the National Weather Prediction Center warns, this intense rainfall can also bring another type of danger.

"It's good news because they definitely need it, but you get too much rain at one time and you could run the risk of getting some flash flooding or flooding in some of the rivers," Sullivan said.

Sullivan says some parts of Northern California could see up to eight inches of rainfall over the next week.
