(NEW YORK) -- The New York City medical examiner's office has confirmed that remains found on a beach in Queens were those of an autistic teen who had been missing for nearly four months.
Avonte Oquendo, 14, disappeared Oct. 4 from his school in Queens. Surveillance video showed him walking out without anyone stopping him.
An extensive search was launched for the teen with Oquendo's picture posted in subway stations across New York City.
Last week, human remains were found on rocks at the water's edge by a teen who was taking photographs in the area.
Oquendo’s family plans to sue the city, claiming his school allowed him to walk away and then waited too long to call police.
