Navy Chief Petty Officer Arrested for Fatally Stabbing Wife

New Orleans Police Department(NEW ORLEANS) -- Chief Petty Officer David Hugh Marx is under arrest for the stabbing death of his wife with a weapon police say might have been an ink pen.

Mary Lou Marx's body was found by her 12-year-old son on May 25.  The boy ran to a neighbor's house after seeing his mother's bloody body through the window of the family's New Orleans home, The Times-Picayune reported.

The boy had gotten a ride home when his mother didn't arrive on time to pick him up from school, the newspaper said.

Witnesses saw a man dressed all in white leave the scene.  On Friday, two days after his wife's murder, David Marx was arrested by members of the Naval Criminal Investigative Service.

The 43-year-old chief petty officer is stationed in Norfolk, Virginia.  He will be extradited to Louisiana where his 51-year-old wife lived with their 12-year-old son.  He will be charged with first degree murder, Officer Hilal Williams said in a statement.

The New Orleans Police Department's major offense log, posted by The Times-Picayune, stated that there had been no forced entry and that "the perpetrator stabbed the victim, possibly with an ink pen, in the chest and nose."

David Marx has been in the Navy since 1987, Navy spokesperson Terri Davis told ABC News.  Marx is assigned to Transient Personnel Unit and is an aviation ordinanceman, Davis said.

Neighbors described the couple as loving, and said that both the boy and his mother were excited about David Marx's impending retirement from the military, The Times-Picayune reported.
