NBA Investigating Clippers Owner Donald Sterling's Alleged Racial Comments

Photo by Ronald Martinez/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- The National Basketball Association launched an investigation on Saturday into a recording of controversial remarks made by Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling.

In the audio recording, the man believed to be Sterling questions his girlfriend about her association with minorities and a photograph that she reportedly took with former Los Angeles Lakers star Magic Johnson on her Instagram profile. The photograph has since been deleted.

Sterling's girlfriend, V. Stiviano, is black and Mexican.

In the recording, the man believed to be Sterling tells Stiviano that it "bothers [him] a lot that you want to broadcast that you're associating with black people. Do you have to?"

In a statement, NBA Spokesman Mike Bass said that the league was "in the process of conducting a full investigation into the audio recording obtained by TMZ." Bass characterized the remarks as "disturbing and offensive," but said the league did not have any further information.

On Saturday, Magic Johnson responded to Sterling's comments on Twitter, saying that he "will never go to a Clippers game again as long as Donald Sterling is the owner." Johnson added that Sterling's comments "are a black eye for the NBA."

The Clippers currently lead their first round playoff series two games to one over the Golden State Warriors. The fourth game in the series is on Sunday.
