New Revelations About Tucson Shooter Jared Lee Loughner

Pima County Sheriff's Department(TUCSON, Ariz.) -- Investigative materials into the January 2011 near-fatal shooting of former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords were made public on Wednesday, and they reveal some disturbing insights into the mind of shooter Jared Lee Loughner and other circumstances surrounding the incident.

Loughner has since pleaded guilty to killing six people and wounding 13 others, including Giffords, the Arizona Democrat who resigned from Congress last year.  He is serving life in prison without parole.

The documents say that Loughner, 24, made it clear after the shooting spree outside a strip mall in Tucson, Ariz., that he was the sole gunman and the lone plotter.

Meanwhile, police also reported that people who witnessed the shooting shouted that Loughner should be killed as he was being subdued.

Loughner's father, Randy Loughner, said that his son's behavior took a turn for the worse when he was thrown out of Pima Community College in fall 2010.  The school said an inflammatory online video led to his expulsion.

Randy Loughner started to disable his son's car to keep him home at night, worried that he might do something violent.

However, Randy and Amy Loughner did not follow up on the college's recommendations that their son undergo a mental evaluation.

Randy Loughner said that well before the shooting on Jan. 8, he was unable to talk with his son rationally, describing him as "lost" and saying he "just didn't want to communicate with me no more."

Following his expulsion from college, Amy Loughner said they took a 12-gauge shotgun away from their son, thinking it was the only firearm he owned.  The parents also had him tested for drugs.

Meanwhile, had Jared Loughner not been subdued at the strip mall, he was prepared to do more damage as he was also carrying two more fully-loaded magazines for his Glock 9-millimeter pistol.
