NYC, Long Island Implement Gas Rationing System in Sandy's Wake

BRENDAN SMIALOWSKI/AFP/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- The gas shortage continues to grip New York City and Long Island in the wake of Hurricane Sandy.

To help ease the pain, a gas rationing system is being put in place. Drivers with license plates ending in odd numbers can buy gas on odd-numbered days, and those with plates ending in even numbers can buy gas on even-numbered days.

The plan goes into effect Friday morning.
