One Dead, Dozens Injured After Two California Bus Crashes

Darren Kong(LOS ANGELES) -- Slippery roads may have led to two bus crashes on the same freeway in southern California Thursday. Both incidents occurred Thursday on Interstate 15, but about 50 miles apart.

Over a dozen people were injured when one bus rolled onto its side east of Los Angeles in Corona, Calif.

The second bus incident -- in which a bus heading to a casino rolled, killing at least one person and injuring 20 others -- happened east of Camp Pendleton between Los Angeles and San Diego. A spokesperson for the Highway Patrol says it appears the driver in that incident lost control of the bus.

"He tried to over-correct. Unfortunately, he wasn't ale to do so," Jim Betancourt told ABC News Radio Thursday. "The bus ended up spinning around, dropped on its side on the right-hand shoulder of the freeway."

Bettancourt said most crashes caused by rain happen because, "people are driven at an unsafe speed for [given road] conditions." Officials have said, however, that it's too soon to say what caused the accidents Thursday afternoon.
